The Pastor’s Profile

         Superintendent Ronald A. Watson was born to Juanita and the late Frank Watson. He was raised in the city of Philadelphia, PA.  Supt. Watson has been married to Doris Butler Watson for 47 years. To this union, five children were born:Tony (Pam), Ronald, Jr. (Brenda), Raymond (Darlene), Marc (Katrina), and Andrea (Marcus). Supt. and Mrs. Watson are the proud grandparents of Angie, Katrina, Ronald III, Brooklyn, Ryan, Danielle, Adrian, Jessica and Alexis. 

       Superintendent Watson is a scholar as well as a minister. He holds a degree in Social Services and has received numerous certificates and awards in higher education and ministerial training. He continues to acquire and share Christian and Leadership education and training at institutions of higher learning surrounding the Radford, VA area and at Christian conferences around the nation. He has attended Radford University, College of William and Mary, Thomas Nelson University, Trenton State, New River Community College, Billy Graham School of Evangelism; he received a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Norfolk Seminary & College and Trinity Bible School. He is also a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service.

      Dr. Watson has proven to be a faithful servant and has been in ministry for over 30 years. He joined the St. Johns Church of God in Christ in 1967, under the leadership of Bishop Samuel L. Green. He worked in many capacities at St. Johns COGIC until 1981, completing 16 years of committed service. He received his Certificate of Ordination in September of 1972 and was Assistant Pastor at St. Johns COGIC until his departure in 1981. While under the pastorate and tutelage of Bishop Green, Superintendent Watson also served as Sunday School Superintendent, Auxiliary Coordinator, Faith For Living Announcer, Credit Union Director, Anniversary Chairman, oversaw the Hospital Visitation Ministry and did whatever his hands found to do in service to God and to his pastor.

       Pastor Watson is not just an ordinary man, but he is a visionary, a leader and an achiever. He was appointed Pastor of the Radford Church of God in Christ in 1981 where he has led the congregation for 22 years.  He received his Superintendent’s Certificate of Appointment in 1987 and currently serves as Superintendent for the Covington District Churches of God in Christ.  He is also Chairman of the Board of Superintendents of the Second Jurisdiction of Virginia Churches of God in Christ.  Pastor Watson is certified as a founding member of “Who’s Who in the Church of God in Christ.” (1990-1991)

      Dr. Watson has a heart for the people of God and his compassion and influence reaches both his congregation and the surrounding community. He is founder and president of Victorious Living Ministries, founder of a tutoring program for students of the New RiverValley utilizing a partnership with New RiverCommunity College, RadfordUniversity and Virginia Tech, and was the sponsor of the Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread, feeding over 100 people daily. His community activities and appointments include the New River Valley Community Services Board, Executive Officer of the New River Valley Ministerial Alliance, City of Radford Quality of Life Community Chair, Radford Community Hospital Foundation Board, Virginia Tech Diversity Board, New River Valley Health Department Board, New River Valley NAACP, and a host of other community service activities.

      Pastor Watson is moving forward with the vision the Lord has given him to build the Radford Family Life Community Center that will provide spiritual, emotional, and educational and community support to the citizens of Radford and the surrounding area. The vision includes an expanded childcare and learning center, housing for the elderly, feeding the hungry and an adult learning center.
