1920

Chartered as Radford Church of God in Christ.

Pastor:Elder G. W. Wells

Charter Members:Cassie Hubbard, Helen Hayden, and Haze Snell

Prayer began in members' homes, located on Furnace Row (near West Main Street).

Mid 1920's

Church moved to Edwards Hall on East Main Street in a small storefront building.

Church Mother:Sister Alice Jackson

Trustee:Brother Pete Hayden

Additional Members:Martha Houchens and Alice Starr

1929

The church moved and erected a tent in Douglas Park on Russell Avenue. Land was deeded to the church by Arthur and Lucy Roberts with the understanding that a church would be erected within 8 years.

1930

The new church building was erected and occupied.

1940

Elder Well's health failed and Elder Charles Butler served as assistant to the pastor.

1945

After Elder Well's death, Overseer D. C. Love appointed Elder Ernest Simon as the pastor.

1946

Mr. & Mrs. Roberts gave two more lots to the church for the sum of $200 for the benefit of the church.

1947

Elder Jerry P. Dabney was appointed as the pastor.

1958-1959

The second church building was erected.

Trustees:Harry Lewis, Joe Lewis and William Matthews, Sr.

1962

Florence James deeded two lots to the church as a gift for a playground to erect for the children.

Trustees:Harry Lewis, Hawthorne Reed, Sr., William Ingram, Joe Lewis, McKinley Harvey, and William Matthews, Sr.

1977

John and Josephine Spiers deeded two lots to the Radford Church of God in Christ for expansion.

Trustees:Harry Lewis, McKinley Harvey, Hawthorne Reed, Sr., and William Matthews, Sr.

1981

Bishop J. P. Dabney passed away (January).Elder Jerry Wyms who previously served as an assistant to the pastor served as church leader until a pastor was appointed.In March 1981, Bishop Samuel Green Jr. appointed Elder Ronald Watson from Newport News, VA to serve as pastor (March).

1982

Word of Life Ministries Radio Broadcast was introduced on WBLB in Pulaski, VA.

1984

George and Pamela Harvey deeded 5 lots to the church for the benefit of the church and ministry.

Trustees:William Matthews, Sr. and Hawthorne Reed, Sr.

1985

Elder Ronald A. Watson, Sr. was installed as pastor of the Radford Church of God in Christ (March 23, 1985).This was the establishment of OASIS Ministries.

1989

Groundbreaking ceremony for new church building.

Church Mother:Mother Myrtle Lewis

1990

New church edifice (3rd) construction was completed.

1991

Dedication Service conducted during the Virginia 2nd Jurisdictional State Workers' Conference (March).

1993

Appointment of Church Mother Emeritus:Mother Myrtle Lewis following illness.

Appointment of Church Mother:Mother Neomia Brown

1994

1st Women's Conference hosted by First Lady Doris Watson and the Ministers' and Deacons' Wives Auxiliary.

1999

The church purchased property and home on Staples Street from Raymond and Darlene Watson as rental property.

The church purchased property on Allen Avenue from Rosa Beavers and Themelia Jones for development and church's benefit.

2001

Appointment of Assistant Church Mother:Mother Vera Crockett

2003

Constructed 2 homes on Allen Avenue as rental properties.

Trustees: Larry Irvin, Cedric Miller, and Terry Phillips

2004

The homes on Allen Avenue were occupied.

2005

Architectural plans were prepared by Virginia Tech students for the church to extend the existing church edifice and the Radford Family Life Community Center. The vision for the RFLCC includes expanded daycare facilities, housing for the elderly, a health center, gymnasium, food distribution center, and a recording studio, etc.   The ministry of the Radford Church of God in Christ is one that continues to flourish and expand, reaching out to those who have needs. Lives are being changed and transformed forever by the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. As we continue to make history, we strive to work together fulfilling the vision and the mission that God has ordained for this church at this time.
